GENE SPECK
American
Gene Speck was born in South Dakota
in 1936. Although he grew up in California, he missed the wide open countryside,
and yearned for a more private, peaceful, simple life. He now lives in
Nevada on a ranch.
One would think that Speck was born
with a brush in his hand. Looking at his paintings you might also assume
that his painting experience spans a lifetime. However, Speck did not
begin to paint until the age of thirty five. Without any formal training
he taught himself -- through trial and error -- along with the conviction
that one day he would become a great artist. This was the first time in
his life that he felt truly fulfilled, confident and proud of himself.
He had found his calling.
Speck embarked on his career in the
early 1970s in California. Once he started exhibiting in art galleries,
the word within the artistic community traveled fast. Collectors were
stunned by the photorealistic detail and refinement he displayed in every
painting. The combination of his impeccable style, plus the subject matter
and stories behind every painting, separated him from other artists in
the market and contributed to his overwhelming success.
Gene Speck is a gentle simple man.
He paints the land he knows and understands. He portrays the people he
admires and feels close to... who lived 100 years ago. Through his paintings
he brings the past to the present and harkens back to a time of peacefulness
that flows out of love for the land and harmony among the people.
